Hashing

Well I went to my first Hash last night. A hash is simply a group of runners trying to follow a set trail marketed out previously by a "hair". Twists and turns along the way, false directions etc. A total blast.

The Hash always ends with beer involved, usually at a bar, where you all chip in and drink and eat until the money runs out. This Hash even had a beer check during the course where we stopped when we got there (mid course) and had a quick beer, then back on to the hunt.

At the "On In" (the finish spot) people drink and socialize then there is a "circle" and a little hazing of sorts happens. I got called out because I am (well was) a Hash "virgin" so I had to chug a beer and then was given a Hash name, which is very rare to get named on your first hash, some where a little upset by that, as they'd hashed dozens of times and not been named yet, anyway had to chug a beer after being named "Barnacle" is my hash name. So now at Hashes I will introduce myself as that, still don't know why the names, I know how they happen, but not why.

Anyway, every Monday I know what I'll be doing. Hashing!

And they have hashes all over the world, go figure.

Bob, a runner in training

Weirdly I was told by a co-worker that I should have a blog and now it's all about running in New York City and that is all I'm writing about now. Also since I'm a legal Alien this gives my friends and family a weird way to see what's going on in my life.
