Well one more training run to go, a simple 2 mile run with a 1 mile warm up and 1 mile cool down, and then the race is Saturday at 9am. It's right around the corner. I don't think I can be much more ready and *knock on wood* injury free still.

We'll see, I expect good things as long as the weather permits.

English (US)   Last Long Distance Training Run Complete  -  Categories: Running in New York City  -  @ 12:33:15 pm

Well this weekend was the final long distance run prior to the half marathon on May 3rd (13 days away).

Saturday was beautiful and I went out at around 10:15 am in early 60s weather.

12 miles later, 1.6 miles to Prospect Park, and then 3 laps of the park and a like 2/10s of a mile out of the park and I was done. 1 hr 36 minutes and 7 seconds, basically perfect 8 min miles for 12 miles.

Felt great, probably not having had a drink in 20 days (at that point), 22 now helps and not over training is even better.

So if I'm good, then I may just be able to do the full Half Marathon (13.1 miles) in exactly 1 hour and 45 minutes which is a personal goal of mine, just didn't think I'd achieve it on this race.

We'll see...

English (US)   Getting there  -  Categories: Running in New York City  -  @ 09:55:48 am

Well this was a good training week. A ten miler on Sunday (yesterday) shows that the distance itself should not be an issue and showed me I need new shoes ASAP. So I am going to go and get new shoes today.

This week is the rough one. This week has the most distance and then I taper off for the last 2 weeks before the race. My current training plan is only a 3 day a week plan to avoid injuries but I can feel shin splints kicking in, so I'm glad this is the longest week (distance wise) as the smaller final two weeks should allow me to heal (new shoes will help).

Anyway, race day is coming soon!

English (US)   Next Half Marathon around the corner  -  Categories: Running in New York City  -  @ 08:57:04 am

My next race is the Brooklyn Half Marathon and it is fast approaching. 3 weeks from now. May 3rd is race day!

Training is going well. I'm doing a 3 day a week only training plan to reduce stress on joints and injury. Seems to be going well. Time will tell
